Education and Training Commission Job Description

Purpose of the Commission: To

Ensure that the Computer Programming program is carried out in a quality, effective and sustainable manner in line with current sector needs, academic standards and student success, and to work for the continuous improvement of the program.

Main Duties and Responsibilities of the Commission:

Curriculum Development and Update:

  • To regularly review the curriculum of the program (weekly course distribution, ECTS credits) and to prepare update proposals.
  • To adapt the course contents (course descriptions, learning outcomes, weekly subject distributions) to current technological developments (software languages, frameworks, platforms, methodologies) and industry needs.
  • To evaluate the suitability, balanced distribution and flow of compulsory and elective courses. Developing new elective course proposals or removing unnecessary courses.
  • To prevent content duplication between lessons and to ensure learning continuity.
  • To align the curriculum with YÖKAK (Higher Education Quality Council) and other relevant qualification frameworks.

Monitoring and Improving Teaching Processes:

  • To evaluate the teaching methods (theoretical, practical, project-based, laboratory) of the courses and to offer diversification suggestions.
  • Reviewing the materials used by the instructors (lecture notes, slides, laboratory guides, online resources) and making suggestions for standardization/updating.
  • To monitor the adequacy and up-to-dateness of laboratory and technical infrastructure (hardware, software, network) and to determine the needs.
  • Develop recommendations to improve students' learning experiences (e.g., mentoring, tutoring, online support systems).

Measurement and Evaluation Processes:

  • To evaluate the appropriateness, validity and reliability of the assessment and evaluation methods (exams, projects, assignments, laboratory performance) used in the courses.
  • Propose standards to ensure the consistency and fairness of judging criteria and rubrics.
  • Analyze student achievement statistics and provide suggestions for improvement by investigating the causes of failure.

Internship and Practical Training:

  • Reviewing and updating the internship directive.
  • To evaluate the suitability of businesses where internships can be done, to encourage the establishment of relationships with new businesses.
  • Reviewing the content of the internship notebooks and the evaluation criteria.
  • To monitor internship audit processes and student-company feedback.

Program Outcomes and Quality Assurance:

  • To ensure and monitor the alignment between program outcomes (graduate qualifications) and course learning outcomes.
  • To review and develop direct/indirect measurement tools (surveys, exams, projects, graduate monitoring) used to measure the level of realization of program outcomes.
  • Analyzing feedback (surveys, meetings) from internal and external stakeholders (students, faculty, alumni, industry) and transforming it into improvement plans.
  • To work in cooperation with Vocational School and University Quality Commissions, to contribute to quality reporting.

Sector and Stakeholder Relations:

  • To prepare the content of the Program Advisory Board meetings, to determine the agenda items, to evaluate the meeting outputs and to prepare an implementation plan.
  • To follow the developments and employment trends in the sector and to ensure that the program adapts to these developments.
  • To follow the employment status of graduates and to provide suggestions to improve the employability skills of the program.

Academic Development and Collaboration:

  • To propose activities (seminars, course observations, joint projects) that encourage knowledge sharing and cooperation among the instructors within the program.
  • To determine the professional development (in-service training, certificate programs, conferences) needs of the instructors and to report them to the management.

Working Procedure:

  • The Commission consists of at least 3 members determined by the Head of the Program at the beginning of the academic year.
  • The Commission convenes at least 2 (two) times a year, at the beginning of the term and at the end of the term  . When necessary, an extraordinary meeting may be convened upon the call of the President or at the request of the members.
  • The agenda of the meeting is determined by the Chairman and announced to the members at least 3 working days before the meeting.
  • Decisions are taken by majority vote. In case of equality of votes, the President's vote determines the decision.
  • Minutes are kept for each meeting. The minutes are signed by the Chairman and the attending members.
  • The work of the commission and the decisions taken are reported to the Vocational School Directorate and the relevant units.
  • Transparency and participation are essential in the work of the Commission. Student and industry opinions are taken into account.
